Benefits to the Health Service

The Cardio Pod is a cost-effective, time-saving solution; the Pod is able to significantly reduce the time it takes to complete a single NHS Health Check. The blood analyser is able to return a full lipid and glucose measurement in less than five minutes, thus eliminating the need to send blood samples away and await their return. The risk score is then automatically calculated using all data collected throughout the Check.

All vital signs measurements are captured using tried and tested medical devices which are attached to the Pod – the readings taken using these devices are automatically transmitted to the Pod, precluding the need for manual entry. This significantly reduces the risk of typing errors, whilst simultaneously saving time. Furthermore, all other questions which make up the Health Check (for example, questions about smoking habits) are asked as a matter of routine, reducing the possibility of any key elements being omitted from calculating the risk score.

The networking capabilities of the Cardio Pod are extensive. The portability of the Pod means that an NHS Health Check can be carried out in a multitude of locations – this raises the issue of data transmission. The Cardio Pod is able to easily send results from the Health Check to all major practice management systems, and all individual results are Read Coded in advance to make this posting even easier. What is more, the Pod is so flexible that it is able to send data from a single location to multiple GP surgeries.

The data can also be sent to a central database which is accessed via a secure server. Statistical searches can also be carried out as all patient data can securely be extracted into anonymous CSV files, allowing for appropriate analysis and review.
