Aspects of the OH Pod

Our customers have found even more uses and benefits for the Occupational HealthPod.

Management and Self-Referrals

1. The OH pod is a quick way to collect information on an employee's health and lifestyle, saving both clinician and patient time in consultation.

2. Mental health factors are known to play a role in perpetuating long term sickness absence. By offering HADS assessment on the ‘Pod, psychosocial issues can be detected and treated sooner - and before they demand absence.

3. Data can be collected and analysed on lifestyle to inform specific measures taken by an organisation to prevent sickness absence and promote staff health and wellbeing. This is also useful evidence for a health and wellbeing programme,

4. The Epworth sleepiness score is an easy way to identify staff who might need further assessment for sleep apnoea. This condition causes daytime sleepiness and can affect staff performance, yet is easily treated – once detected.

5. There is evidence that people are more truthful to a computer than a person about their alcohol consumption, and other health information that might carry certain connotations. Information from the Pod may be more valid.

New entrants

1. New entrants to the organisation get a clear message at the start of their employment that their health and lifestyle is important to the organisation. Through the OH pod they are assessed, can access nearby information leaflets for further guidance, and might also be made aware of a previously undiagnosed health problem.

2.Similarly, this data is also useful as evidence for a health and wellbeing programme.

Research opportunities

1. Just as EMIS has pooled data from general practice, OH departments could pool data about staff in the NHS, to improve the efficacy of absence reduction measures.
